Description: The ARNOLD provides a statewide, linear-referenced representation of South Dakota's road network, including both state highways and local public roads, supporting FHWA's annual HPMS submittal. Measures for all roads are recorded to 0.001 miles, with state highway segments over discontinuities starting with an additional 0.0001 miles, ensuring precise linear referencing across the network. For state highways, the highway naming convention follows the standards of the SDDOT Roadway Information System (RIS) database; for example, Highway 14 is stored as 014, and Highway 212 as 212. Directionality and subordinate routes also follow the RIS naming convention with specific character spacing. For local public roads, the Route ID is generated from the COUNTY_CODE, CITY_CODE, and SDDOT_ID fields.
